PEER IMPACT
We believe the most powerful voices in preventing youth homelessness are those who have experienced it themselves.
Peer Impact is our peer education programme, developed by Beyond Youth Homelessness over 15 years ago. Created in-house, it remains a unique and bespoke project, using lived experience to educate, inspire and help prevent youth homelessness.
Before becoming Peer Educators, our volunteers complete a Level 2 Extended Award in Personal and Social Development Skills, giving them the confidence and skills to share their experiences safely and effectively.
Our Peer Educators, aged 16–25, work alongside our Project Workers to deliver Home Street Home workshops in secondary schools and colleges across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. Their real-life experiences challenge stereotypes, reduce stigma, encourage empathy and help young people recognise where to turn for support.
Peer Impact doesn’t just benefit those who hear the stories—it transforms the lives of the young people who share them. Volunteers build confidence, develop valuable life and employability skills, and gain a real sense of purpose by using their experiences to help others.
We are incredibly proud of our Peer Educators. Their courage and commitment have inspired thousands of young people and shown that homelessness does not define a person’s future.
“IT HAS WIDENED MY VIEW ON WHAT CAUSES HOMELESSNESS. I NOW REALISE IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE.” (STUDENT)

“Format of the presentation was excellent. Really well presented and engaged the kids. Lots of organisations rely on videos, this real-life presentation worked a lot better. Thanks for your help.” (Teacher)
HOME STREET HOME
We have been delivering workshops to groups of students in secondary schools across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire for many years. Our hour-long sessions are aimed at Year 10 and 11 students (and can be adapted for other age groups). We set out to challenge the stereotypes around homelessness and homeless people, raise awareness of the issue and – most importantly – equip young people with the information they need to recognise when they are at risk of homelessness and seek the right support as early as possible.
Home Street Home is interactive, innovative and based around the real-life experiences of our peer educators – it is an opportunity for students to find out about all aspects of the common causes and consequences of homelessness.
If you would like more information about booking Home Street Home sessions for your school or youth group, please get in touch.

MAGAZINE
‘On Your Feet’ is designed to be given to the students who have attended a Home Street Home session; it gives them more information and a handy list of agencies to contact should they need advice or support. The magazine works just as well as a stand-alone resource, it’s always an informative, entertaining and inspirational read.
The latest edition features articles on domestic abuse, rough sleeping, The Big Issue, foodbanks, Hidden Homelessness and much more. What makes it such fascinating reading is the number of young people who were willing to share their personal experiences of homelessness – their stories in their words.
INTER AGENCY FORUM
South Nottinghamshire Interagency Homelessness Forum is coordinated and co-chaired by BYH, this quarterly forum brings together the agencies concerned with homelessness from across the region to promote information sharing, good practice and effective partnership working. It operated as the Broxtowe Interagency Forum for 13 years and was so effective that it was extended to encompass Gedling and Rushcliffe with whom Broxtowe shares a Homelessness Strategy.
If you would like to attend the Forum, please get in touch.
