At BYH, we work tirelessly to mitigate the impact of youth homelessness throughout Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. We provide support for young people aged 16-25 years old who have experienced homelessness or are at risk of it. We aim to prevent homelessness in the first instance, however when this hasn’t been possible we offer the help you need to rebuild your lives and empower you to successfully move on from homelessness.

How we can help
Parcel Scheme
We offer emergency food parcels and toiletries packs to young people aged 16-25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. For those who are moving on from homelessness and into their own tenancy, we provide a Home Starter Pack which includes a range of basic kitchen equipment, towels and cleaning products.
Home Street Home
Our secondary school workshops with peer educators set out to challenge the stereotypes around homelessness, raise awareness of the issue and equip young people with the information they need to recognise when they are at risk of homelessness and seek the right support as early as possible.
I’m Jane, I’ve been a Project Worker at BYH since 2014, and I am now the Project Manager. Prior to that I worked with looked after children & young people with challenging behaviours for 12 years.
I really enjoy my role here at BYH, we’re a small team with one thing in common….. making a difference! It has given me a great insight into the complex issues around homelessness and an understanding of how valuable the work we do is to the vulnerable groups that we work with.
I have met, and work with, some remarkable and inspirational young volunteers that have experienced homelessness themselves and without them BYH just wouldn’t be the success that it is.

Finance Worker
I have been the Finance Worker at BYH since June 2017. I have over 40 years experience of working in finance and benefits at local authorities and for a large multinational charity, where I was involved, amongst other things, with the management of homeless hostels across the East Midlands.
I enjoy working with numbers and hope that my experience can help this great charity continue to grow and achieve.

Senior Project Worker
I have worked at BYH since October 2017. I initially joined the team as the drop-in worker before becoming a project worker and then promoted as the senior worker.
Prior to my role at BYH, I was a child protection social worker and have ample years of work experience in a range of different settings, such as, within schools, youth offending and working with homeless men with substance misuse difficulties.
I thoroughly enjoy working with children, young people and families. I believe everyone should be given the opportunity to meet their potential and I really enjoy helping people achieve their goals. I am dedicated to provide support and advice, this sometimes can mean direct focused work but on many occasions, general chats and a cup of tea is just as effective!

Project Worker
I joined the BYH team as a project worker in October 2022. Alongside this role, I’m also a foster carer and have been for the last 5 years. I thoroughly enjoy working with young people and have done so for the last twenty years. I have experience working in youth work, substance misuse, supported housing and education.
Supporting young people in reaching their potential is something I’m very passionate about. I believe that my previous experience of being in the care system and being adopted has made me super appreciative of the support I’ve previously had which is what has driven me in all my roles.
In my spare time, I love going on adventures in the Peaks with my family. I also enjoy running and am hoping to do an ultra-marathon next year.

I’m new to BYH starting October 2024, as a project worker. I have completely changed my career direction due to a passion for helping and supporting young people.

She’s gone again…….Ria is now on maternity leave until early 2027. We wish her all the best and cant wait to welcome her back next year
I previously worked for BYH for 8 years and then spent some time away working within a secondary setting supporting vulnerable students. I feel that working with homeless young people is where my heart is so returned to BYH in 2023. I am passionate about the work I do at BYH and find it a really rewarding and inspiring experience working with different young people from a variety of backgrounds.
I experienced homelessness myself when I was 17 and spent some time in and out of various hostels, this led me to want to progress a career in social work so I attended Nottingham Trent University.
In my spare time I enjoy keeping fit, going on holidays and spending quality time with my family.

I am new to working at BYH as a Project Worker starting February 2026.
However I have been a peer educator for many years after experiencing homelessness myself as a teenager, having received help and support from BYH.
Since then I have had a passion for helping young people.
Prior to this role I have been doing event management and marketing.
I am thrilled to be working with BYH and looking forward to supporting young people in as many ways as I can!
